Position: Medication Safety Pharmacist
Employment Type: Temporary Part-Time (Parental Leave Cover)
Hours: 40 hours per fortnight
Location: Geelong, Victoria
Job Description
This role offers a varied and rewarding opportunity to promote medication safety across Barwon Health through monitoring, education, research, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work alongside the Lead Medication Safety Pharmacist and pharmacy teams across multiple sites.
Responsibilities:
Monitor and develop initiatives to improve medication safety in line with NSQHS Standard 4
Respond to medication errors, safety alerts, legislative changes, and guideline updates
Conduct audits, prepare reports, develop/review policies, and provide staff education
Participate in hospital ward rounds, planning meetings, and the Medication Safety Committee
Support Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) initiatives from relevant bodies such as SHPA and Vic TAG QUM
Mentor interns and students; participate in clinical pharmacy research projects
Ensure compliance with Barwon Health policies, procedures, and accurate clinical documentation
Qualifications
Essential:
Registered pharmacist with AHPRA
Hospital pharmacy experience with clinical or project involvement
Experience or interest in Medication Safety or Quality Use of Medicines
Desirable:
Skills in change management and human factors engineering
Knowledge of relevant state and national medication safety policies
Postgraduate qualifications (Masters or equivalent) in pharmacy or related field
